The Da Vinci Code may be a well known film, but that doesn't make it superb. It is too bad, because it does have the potential to be great.

The story is really intriguing, especially if you enjoy mysteries and puzzles. There is controversy over this film, as well as the book, because of the strong religious affiliation that the story has. Don't let that turn you away because this is still a watchable movie, even if you are not a religious person.

The pace is pretty bad at the beginning. I don't mind that the movie doesn't waste any time by jumping right into the story without any buildup, but the first 30 minutes do show some rush in the writing. Fortunately, the film settles down and moves at a decent pace. In fact, it moves all the way to 2 hours and 30 minutes. It doesn't feel like an eternity though.

The plot is full of twists and turns and while this is a nice touch, at times it seems that it is a bit too much. It is probably why the movie is as long as it is.

Tom Hanks does a decent job at leading this picture and Audrey Tautou is lovely to look at. They aren't terrible, but you expect more out of them. Both characters are too serious and while this makes for a more realistic approach, it makes it less entertaining, unlike National Treasure. Ian McKellen and Jean Reno do their parts and Paul Bettany has one of the more interesting and memorable characters of the movie. Alfred Molina, on the other hand, is forgettable.

The Da Vinci Code is a better than average flick which has its flaws. Still, it isn't a waste of a watch.

Why is Paul Bettany not listed as an actor in this movie??? He's what made The DaVinci Code great as a film! He portrayed Silas perfectly.
